I wonder how the UK feels about their flag being displayed in black and white. Are there rules against it? Or is it mini pride that prevents any disapproval

There aren't any laws as such for the flag, there are rules and advice (like the Union flag should only be flown vertical or horizontal but many flag poles from buildings are angled at 45degrees or there abouts)
This is the correct way from an angled pole.
The Union Flag is to be flown at the laft most of the others with British flags immediately to the right, then commonwealth countries and other world flags in alphabetical order further down but it's not an offence to do otherwise.
but like when another country burns our flag we get annoyed but the flag isn't our country it's a representation of our country. By burning or altering the flag doesn't affect who we are or what we are.
I get annoyed but then think 'well you went and bought it with your own money after getting a fellow countryman to make it in the first place, it's your money going up in flames you idiot', while I sit and watch them on my tv knowing no harm has been done to me or my country and secretly hope the guy got a really bad burn from it.

I never knew that about the flag having to be flown vertically like that. The addition looks interesting but you'd think they'd just add a drop cable to maintain it's original shape.
And that's a really valid point about the flag burning. You burned a symbol but not the actual country itself. Also have you seen the video of the guy burning (I believe an American) flag but himself gets engulfed in the flames as well? It's just a wonderful bitch smatch back at someone for being so foolish.

The drop cable would just be 'dead space' and from a distance would look like the flag hadn't been correctly secured.
Very few know or indeed care about the horizontal/vertical rule and simply buy the flag straight off the shelf. As long as it's not flown upside down I'm okay with any way they choose (upside down denotes, distress).
One Central Library in Manchester, England ordered a Union Flag and didn't check it before drawing it up the flag pole (no idea how the manufacturer got it so wrong, maybe it was a protest or just stupidity) and got 'egg on their face'.
A union jack which was manufactured in error before being flown in Manchester on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day has been removed.
"Manchester City Council has apologised for the blunder which saw the flag flying over the city's Central Library, close to its Cenotaph.
It said the manufacturers cut the flag in the wrong place, leaving the diagonal crosses facing outwards.
Contractors then failed to spot the error as the flag was being attached.
The flag was ordered in time for the service in St Peter's Square on Sunday.
A council statement said: "This was clearly a mistake and we apologise. The misprinted flag will be replaced."
Yes. I like it when things like that (excuse the pun) blow up in their face.

wow that's one hell of a screw up. And as many people that saw it yet didn't catch the issue.
